Museum Hilversum | 'Palace of Photographic Sculptures': Koen Hauser

'Paleis van Fotografische Sculpturen' features works from his 'Skulptura' series and new photographs from the 'Michelangelo Iconoclastia' project. For 'Michelangelo Iconoclastia', Hauser visually reinterpreted an old tourist guide about the work of sculptor Michelangelo. In 'Skulptura,' he explores the cross-pollination between photography, fashion, and sculpture. For this project, for example, he created 3D renderings of the fashion designs of Vivienne Westwood and Viktor & Rolf.

Both projects grew out of Hauser's fascination with vintage photographs of sculpture, and demonstrate his ability to reshape historical images. This allows museum visitors to experience a fascinating interplay between looking, seeing, and recognizing. With 'Paleis van Fotografische Sculpturen', Hauser creates a style room in which nothing is what it seems

Koen Hauser (Netherlands, 1972) works with photography, moving images, making books, installations, texts, and sculptures. He completed his master's degree in social psychology (1996, Leiden University), later followed by studies in photography at the Royal Academy of Art and the Gerrit Rietveld Academy (2002). In 2014, Hauser was named Photographer of the Netherlands. Since 2019, he has focused entirely on his artistic practice.

Official opening June 6
Thursday evening, June 6, is the official opening of the exhibition 'Paleis van Fotografische Sculpturen' with a Podium MH. This evening photographer and artist Koen Hauser will give an artist talk. Admission is free and we welcome everyone to participate in this inspiring evening.
