Eva Stenram's (b. 1976, Sweden) photographic practice brings together analogical archival material and digital manipulation, sifting through past and present artifacts and re-interpreting the imagery she encounters.
Eva Stenram's art practice revolves around photography and post-production, exploring and investigating the visual language inherent in photography.
In her works, she often uses archive material from popular culture and other analogue and digital sources that have typically been or still are in general public circulation. Using a variety of reproduction methods and montage techniques, she displaces their original meaning and lets the work open up new interpretations. Her work is ultimately about being a viewer, a consumer of images.
Eva Stenram studied in London at the Slade School of Art and Royal College of Art in London. Stenram’s work has been exhibited worldwide, important exhibitions include A Handful of Dust curated by David Campany, Home Sweet Home at the Rencontres d’Arles, and Die Bienale für Aktuelle Fotografie 2020, in Mannheim, Ludwigshafen and Heidelberg, Germany. Recent solo exhibitions were Cadastral at Fotografisk Center in Copenhagen, Denmark and New Meridians at Literaturhaus in Berlin. Her work is in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, Tate Gallery London, and Moderna Museet in Stockholm . She has been awarded several prizes for her work, and in 2019 was added to the Royal Photographic Society's list of influential and pioneering profiles. Originally from Sweden, Stenram now lives and works in Berlin.
