Nico Krijno is a South African artist who creates works of playful abstraction, using photography, collage, painting and sculpture to question established conceptions of meaning and form.
Often manipulated using digital tools, Krijno's pieces celebrate glitchy experimentalism with an abiding reverence for vivid colour, strange texture and mysterious composition. The Constellation #029', a muddy mask beneath a splurge of polka dots, captures the series' performative essence.
A tangible artistic irreverence shines through here, rejecting the boundary between the abstract and the figurative, landing somewhere pleasingly illogical.
